Caution Urged: Mother Shoots Daughter in Dog Tragedy

U.S. Attorney Clinton Johnson emphasized the legal responsibility of gun owners to exercise extreme caution when using firearms, underscoring the tragic consequences that may arise without such caution.

The unfortunate incident unfolded on October 5, 2018, when Moffett’s daughter informed her about a stray dog attacking kittens near their residence. Moffett, reacting to the situation, went to her front porch and discharged a handgun into the darkness, aiming at the dog, according to federal prosecutors. However, she failed to ensure that her daughter was safely out of the line of fire while attempting to shoot the dog, leading to the tragic outcome.

As a result of her plea, Moffett could face a sentence of up to eight years in prison, though the sentencing date has yet to be determined. Currently, she is on supervised release pending further legal proceedings.
